Integration of refugees in Poland

Project description

The project is to give information to refugee women expecting a child on Polish standard of medical assistance to pregnant women, delivery and babycare.

Until now, there has been no program giving information on this topic to refugees or other persons granted protection in Poland, yet refugee families in Poland are young and many refugee women are expecting. With no information on their rights, not knowing what to expect from Polish hospitals and medical staff, they often feel frustrated and lost. This project is to help them to feel more informed and comfortable in their condition.

Project goals

The project has the following aims:

  • to give basic information on their rights during pregnancy and delivery to a group of 30 expecting women - refugees and persons with tolerated stay status;
  • to enable the group of women to meet a doctor/midwife and see the local hospital;
  • to inform the women on Polish standards concerning babycare - routine medical checks, vaccinations etc.;
  • based on women's expressed needs - to produce an information brochure on the topic.

The project entails two activities:

  • meetings and visits for the women participants - to meet medical staff and see hospital conditions;
  • preparation and printing of the information brochure.

In result of the project, some 30 women granted protection in Poland will have participated in the meetings and visits.

1000 copies of the brochure will be printed in Polish, English and Russian.

This project is made possible by the Mazovian Voivod and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). "Rodzić po Ludzku" Foundation was the implementing partner of the project.
