The Polish Migration Forum Foundation invites you to participate in a series of training courses on perinatal support for refugees

Perinatal support for refugee women - training for medical staff

The first of our training series is intended for medical staff, people who work or plan to work in perinatal care with refugees and migrants. During the training, we will look at the experiences in perinatal care for women with experience of refugee. We will talk about the psychological and social consequences of forced migration, including the increased risk of postnatal depression, and cultural differences in perinatal care. We will check what can be done to support them in the delivery room and how to take care of yourself by helping others. After the lecture, there will be time for questions and conversation.

Conducting intercultural birth schools - training for midwives and psychologists 

The second training in the series is intended for midwives who conduct classes in childbirth schools and plan to launch classes for pregnant migrants and refugees. During the training, we will share our eight years of experience in preparing and running intercultural birthing schools. We will discuss the key competences needed to work in an intercultural group, as well as the program of activities we propose that includes topics related to cultural differences in perinatal care, specific needs of pregnant migrant women, an increased risk of perinatal psychological crises. We will pay attention to the specific needs and risks related to childbirth and motherhood in a foreign culture.

Conducting intercultural support groups - training for psychologists and trainers 

The last training in the series is directed to female psychologists and trainers who run support groups for women and plan to launch such groups for mothers of migrant and refugee women. During the training, we will share our eight years of experience in preparing and running intercultural support groups. We will discuss the key competences needed to work in an intercultural group, as well as the program of activities we propose. We will pay attention to the specific needs and risks related to motherhood in a foreign culture, including perinatal crises and the challenges of independent motherhood.

The training will be led by Marta Piegat-Kaczmarczyk

Intercultural psychologist, member of the board of the Polish Migration Forum Foundation, TSR therapist during certification and Kids Skills Ambassador of the Helsinki Brief Therapy Institute. She has been working with refugee and multicultural children and families for over 20 years. She runs intercultural birthing schools, support groups and workshops for parents, supports children and adolescents after experiences of trauma, violence, discrimination, and women in perinatal crises. She conducts trainings for professionals. She works in Polish, English and Russian, and with translation into Dari, Arabic, Sorani and other languages.
