Our activities

During our trainings and webinars, we share knowledge gained through organizing perinatal classes and support groups for migrants. We address issues such as psychological and social consequences of forced migration, cultural differences in perinatal care, intercultural communication during childbirth, and conducting intercultural childbirth classes.

Why attend our training? Here are a few reasons.

  • Prevention of perinatal depression
  • Sexual education and health education
  • A conscious and calm mother is a safer child (protecting children from harm)
  • Motherhood requires a support network – we help create it!
  • An excellent time to engage fathers – we are often the first to show a different model of father’s presence in the family
  • We know the needs – the project is created by moms for other moms

Key data – 2023

  • 28 midwives from all over Poland underwent in-depth stationary training,
  • 124 students completed online training,
  • 797 people from all over Poland participated in a webinar with the Supreme Chamber of Nurses and Midwives.

„Every childbirth is part of a primal experience, with fears common to all women. Regardless of whether a migrant or a Polish woman gives birth. Although culture imposes different patterns of behavior and expectations related to this event, we all feel the same. However, we midwives always have to be aware of how transformative the experience of giving birth away from one’s homeland is.” Małgorzata Skalska, położna

Dedicated publications

In addition to the above activities, we also publish publications developed by the PFM team as well as external experts in the field of perinatal care. We share our knowledge, actions taken, good practices, important information, and challenges. The latest publications are a comprehensive guide for migrant moms “I’m a Mom in Poland” and “Presence is the Most Important. Support for Refugees and Migrants in the Perinatal Period – Experiences of the Polish Migration Forum Foundation”.
