Teachers in Poland are currently facing a great challenge of involving children from Ukraine both in the education process (in a system that has not yet been adapted to the new realities) and in integration. The pandemic has put peer relationships to the test and, more than once, strongly weakened them. Many teachers are concerned about how the new Ukrainian students will find themselves in the new environment. How will they be accepted by their peers? How to strengthen children’s mutual curiosity, sympathy and friendship? How to counteract exclusion, discrimination, peer violence and other difficulties that may arise and intensify?

Already several months of isolation from peers caused by successive lockdowns caused many children to fear returning to school. The children were afraid not only of catching up, but also of returning to contacts with their peers. Many students during the months of isolation did not maintain any friendships. Children with experience of migration experienced particular difficulties in this respect. Especially children, who previously felt rejected by the class, are now even more reluctant to contact their peers. The teachers have been faced with the difficult task of helping students rebuild their relationships or even re-establish constructive friendships.

The purpose of the webinar is to strengthen teachers ‘and teachers’ competences in this area. During the webinar, participants will learn about the method developed by the Finnish psychiatrist Ben Furman and the program that they will be able to implement with their classes. By implementing this program, or its selected components, children will develop the skills needed to build the best possible relationships in the classroom. The classes that complete the program will be able to apply for the “Skillfull Class” certificate awarded by the Institute of Short-Term Therapy in Helsinki.
